The story so far….

So.

Without boring everyone with a bunch of historical facts about how we came to want to move to Hawai’i, I will just say that we have been frequent visitors to the four main Hawaiian Islands – Oahu, Kauai, Maui and the Big Island (I know, I know , it’s called Hawai’i!). Last December (2013) we decided to vacation again on Kauai for the first time in a couple of years. We have loved the island every time we’d been there and this time was no different. Except that, as the vacation went on, my wife ‘B’ and I came to the realization that we really didn’t want to go back home. Really, really didn’t want to go back to the freeways, the arid climate, the breakneck pace of life in southern California.

At that point we started talking about Kauai as a place to retire to – maybe in 3 years or so we could afford to get a small place and kick it island style.

We started researching properties and vacillated between buying a condominium as an investment and buying a single family home. In May of 2014 we returned to the island and met up with our realtor ‘S’ who had been helping us and sending us properties in our price range that met our criteria. With the help of ‘S’ we compiled a list of 15 or 20 likely properties to look at. At the end of the week we put an offer in on a very cute, very small, VERY Hawaiian home with a large lanai and a bit of an ocean view on the south side of the island.

We flew back home, put our 3500 sq. ft. house on the market, sold it in 2 days and went into escrow on both properties (the one we are selling and the one we are buying). If we thought we were busy before, we had no idea what was in store for us. This blog will run through the trials, tribulations, challenges and all manner of associated information on our quest to shed our old lives, let go of the material items that weighed us down, slow down and simplify our lives on the island of Kauai .

Because right now, our lives are NOT simple! :-0
