Hurricane Update – 8-22-15 and other stuff.
Tropical depression KIlo was unexpectedly downgraded from a tropical storm to a tropical depression on Friday night. The storm track forecast now has it further west but still pointed at Kauai. This is good news but we are not anywhere near being out of the woods yet. The weather forecasters appear a bit baffled that the storm weakened and are still forecasting that it will become a hurricane before it gets in or neighborhood – probably around thursday now.
The governor of Hawaii, David Ige, has a already issued emergency orders in case of the hurricane in order to mobilize emergency services more quickly. We are still in preparedness mode; today we will be cutting out and fitting up our window coverings. Hopefully we won’t need them but we will have them for future use at any rate. We also have friends arriving from the mainland today (talk about flying into the frying pan!). We will probably get together with them tomorrow.
In other news, I had my musical debut on Kauai last night at Art Walk in Hanapepe. The music itself was a bit rough in my opinion but the crowd was very appreciative and we walked away with pretty good tip money. Cynthia, of Talk Story Bookstore (where we set up in front of) wants us back again for multiple gigs next month. We will see how the schedule plays out.
OK – back to hurricane preparedness – or hot coffee whichever is easier 🙂
Stay tuned for more updates.
