Just a check-in before house project #3
So we have bid our first guests since the bathroom renovation goodby and we are just about ready to get started on the Master Bedroom refresh. We took about a week breather before getting started so this post is just a life update from Kauai.
We had our friends Jon and Debbie come stay with us for a couple of weeks and had a really good time hanging out with them. We took a few days in the middle of their trip to hop over to Maui and hang out at the Marriott Ocean Club resort in Ka’anapali on the west side of the island. The grounds there are beautiful and I highly recommend it. There are other resorts in the area and Whaler’ Village shopping mall is within walking distance (although we mostly went there for ice cream haha). We also saw some amazing sunsets.
While our friends were here we had a chance to go to Waimea Canyon and Koke’e State Park where there is a great overlook into the Kalalau Valley. The view on a clear day always amazes me.
It was good to get out and take a break from our home renovation projects for a couple of weeks and remember why we moved here in the first place.
The day to day things…
Work is still going well. I have a possibility of picking up another client or two and am keeping my fingers crossed there, but I am staying busy. Barb is on summer break from her job at the school so that’s all good.
We grew a couple of saplings from seed to plant around the house. One came from our Hass avocado tree at the previous house on Lahela Pl. It always produced really tasty avocados and we hope that this offspring does the same for us in 4 or 5 years. The second sapling is a papaya tree that is only a little over a month old. These guys grow fast and can produce fruit at 7 or 8 months of age. I’ve also planted 7 or 8 pineapple crowns around the yard and every one of them is growing.
We’ve been practicing pretty steadily and are making good progress on nailing down a core set of songs. We played a beach party at Salt Pond yesterday and it was a good time. We were one of 3 bands playing for the party so it was a good chance to meet more musicians. A lot of fun and a great sunset. Plus… what’s better than playing rock and roll at the beach?!
So that is the update for now. Thank you for taking the time to read and much aloha to all of you!
